What is Patient Advocacy?
Dakota Patient Advocacy is here to help you or your loved one navigate the healthcare system with confidence and clarity. We act as your personal guide—making sure you understand your medical care, helping with appointments, insurance issues, prior authorizations, and speaking up for your needs when things get confusing or overwhelming.
We are independent, which means we work for you, not a hospital or insurance company. Whether you're dealing with a new diagnosis, managing a chronic condition, or just need help getting answers, we're here to support you every step of the way.
Why Patient Advocacy Matters?
We all use advocates in everyday life—whether we realize it or not.
When you apply for a mortgage, a loan officer helps you understand the process. When you do your taxes, you might hire a tax professional to guide you. If you’re unsure about your finances, a banker or advisor helps you make informed decisions.
Just like these areas, healthcare can be complex and overwhelming. That’s where a patient advocate comes in.
At Dakota Patient Advocacy Solutions, we help you:
Understand medical diagnoses, test results, and treatment options
Coordinate appointments and care between providers
Handle insurance issues, including prior authorizations and denials
Ask the right questions and get the answers you deserve
Make informed, confident choices about your health or the health of a loved one
You don’t have to go through it alone. Just like you'd never file complicated taxes without help, you shouldn’t have to navigate the healthcare system without support. That’s the power of patient advocacy.

about me
Welcome to Dakota Patient Advocacy Solutions! I'm Laurie Boeshans. Currently a Licensed Practical Nurse since 2001 and soon to be a Board-Certified Patient Advocate. While board certification is not required to work as a patient advocate, I’ve chosen to pursue it to deepen my knowledge and better serve my clients. I believe that continuing education and professional standards matter—especially when helping individuals navigate something as important as their health.
In my over 20 + years in nursing I have worked in cardiology, internal medicine, family practice and behavioral health—but throughout my entire career, one thing has remained constant: putting patients first.
I founded Dakota Patient Advocate Solutions because I saw firsthand how overwhelming and confusing healthcare can be. From dealing with insurance issues to trying to get clear answers from providers, patients and their families often feel lost. I wanted to create a service where people have someone on their side—someone who listens, explains, coordinates, and advocates.
My mission is simple: to make sure you don’t go through the healthcare system alone. Whether it’s handling prior authorizations, helping you understand a diagnosis, or getting the care you deserve, I’m here to support and empower you every step of the way.
I live in North Dakota and proudly serve clients throughout the region (and virtually). When I’m not working, I enjoy time with my family, traveling, and continuing to learn new ways to better serve my clients.
Let me help you feel heard, supported, and in control of your care.
